Busy, busy, busy… We are all so busy. You may have gotten into a good exercise routine, but then your schedule changes, the days get busier, and the first thing to get dropped is your training. We’ve all been there, and we know it’s difficult to get back on track once you’ve fallen off, so how do you just stick to it, and fit training around your busy lifestyle?

Plan ahead, and schedule your workouts with a trainer!

Then you are committed, it is in your calendar, and you will be held accountable! Check in advance to see if your trainer is also available online. There might come a time when your day is so packed and it is truly impossible to get into the gym in person, but the recent year has proven that almost anything can be done online. So if your trainer offers online sessions, this is a fantastic way to stick to your routine, even during those busy weeks!

Set a goal, and know what motivates you!

Whether it’s completing a hard hike, lifting heavier, or getting into that yoga pose, find that goal you want to work towards. Having it in the back of your mind will keep you moving forward in the harder days. Instead of going out and buying a new pair of sneakers now, let it be your reward once you accomplish your goal. Then set a new one to work towards!

Schedule! We schedule our work meetings, doctors appointments, children’s sports, but unless we have a scheduled training session with a personal trainer our own workouts don’t get prioritized. So whatever it is you plan on doing for your own workout, put that into your calendar. “1:00pm: 30min Circuit Time”.

Get up from your desk and move around!

Stuck indoors at your desk for 10 hours? No problem! A lot of us have gotten accustomed to working from home, but you are probably missing getting up from your desk and walking over to the water cooler, going into a different conference room, or running out to grab that mid morning java. Chances are, if you are working from home your steps are 10 to the bathroom, 10 to your kitchen, and that’s it. Which is not much!

Make sure to get up every 60 minutes and do some movement for 1 minute. Here are some ideas:
Body weight squats

Jog on the spot

Pushups

Plank

Crunchies

Jumping jacks

Lunges

Inchworm

High knees

Other tips to keep you moving throughout your week:
*Walk to get your groceries or another errand

*Walk or use a treadmill during a work call

*Do some pushups or sit ups or squats in between your TV show binging

*Go for at least 1 walk a day. If you know you are not going to get a workout in the next couple of days then do a walk/jog to get in a bit more exercising. Try 1 min jog, 2 min walk, for 15-20 mins.

*Stand up while you work.

*Take stairs whenever possible.

Remember, anything is better than nothing, and it all adds up. So get up and do a little bit of moving every day!
